Hi all, My name is Alan and I live in the UK. I have just purchased a 1971 Mach 1. It has been lowered but I'm not happy with it as it is too low and the headers ground out sometimes, so I'm looking to raise it a bit.
Looks nice, are you going to continue the side stripe down under the side light at the front? Can you guys leave your cars LHD over there or do you have to convert them to RHD?
Do your front tyres scrape on the guards when you turn into driveways? When mine had 235's on the front it did.
How is it lowered? My 73 had 1 1/4" lowering blocks in the back when I got mine. I took them out because the back tyres were scraping on the guards when I had more than 1 person in it. It still scrubbed after I took them out (295 wide tyres on the back) so I had to get the rear springs re-set. All good now. My exhaust scrapes sometimes when I come and go from my driveway but we have a very steep driveway (drops about 2 metres over 6 metres) but that is the only time it scrapes. I am just waiting on some new engine mounts. That might raise the motor slightly and fix it?
Welcome to the site. Nice looking Mach 1! Glad to see so much interest in Mustangs in the UK.
Just curious, I have a 60 MGA that I started restoring in the 70's, but failed to complete. Are there many MGA's over in the UK? It seems like I read somewhere that most of them ended up in the US.
Very glad to have you join us. Your car presents itself very well. I too am not much for the on the pavement rides and prefer day to day function over a super low stance. All part of making it yours. We are looking forward to having your input with us here at Mach1 Club.
Hi Steve from downunder, thanks for your reply. We keep the cars LHD over here no conversion needed. I don't have any problems with tyres rubbing but I am going to raise the car a bit to stop the headers from grounding out. When I have done that I hope to put some wider wheels and tyres on her. I can't see any lowering blocks on the springs so I think the springs are low, the front springs have had a bit cut from them.
I will let you know how I get on.
Is your engine bay painted body color as well? I am hoping to go body color on mine and am collecting pictures for ideas.
Rare Pony,
Are you holding out - do you still own the MG? The other day I met a man through a friend of mine. We went to see a 1969 Mach 1 he is working on and in his shed he also had a Tiger Sunbeam that has been sitting for a long time.

I still own the MGA, but it is pretty rough, but probably restorable. I removed all four fenders, bumpers, etc, way back in the 70's and stored them in my parents barn. No room for the whole car though. It's be stored outside the barn mostly under an old pickup truck cap. The interesting part is that I worked at an MG dealer in the parts department back in the late 70's and ordered loads of parts at wholesale price to restore the MG. I have all new light assemblies, grill, both bumpers, windshield, seat kits, carpet, some of the gauges new in the box, chrome grill gurard, new master cylinder, wheel cylinders, new top, etc.. The parts are proably worth a whole lot more than the car. Maybe one of these days I will assess it again and decide what to do with it.
[/align]Hi Steven, yes, it's yellow in the engine bay as well. The car was stripped right back to nothing and every item was painted seperate, yellow in the trunk as well.
