Be glad to give advice and help in any way that is within my limitations to do.
As to the car in the pictures - well April 2006 is a long time ago and a lot can transpire in a cars life in that amount of time. The owner has taken liberties with his interpretation of his car (which is his prerogative) but it disqualifies a listing as restored (restomoded would be the term).
Don has sent you a nice example. Tell us what you think of the car, it's options, etc and what your idea is on price. For comparison, I bought mine in February this year for $6,000.00 It is a rust free car, never wrecked, repainted (I would guess 15+ years ago), missing the FMX transmission, missing front windscreen, incorrect front seat and all the engine accessories are present but off the motor. I do not think that "I stole it" but I do believe that I got a good deal. Shop some on Craigslist here in the south-western U.S. and see what you come up with. Let me add this one for you to have a look at. It is not a 1973 but tell us what you think to give us an idea of what your looking for. http://www.sanborn7.com/71Mach1/index.htm
Don's car does look nice in the 2006 photographs & if its in that condition today it would be an ideal candidate as it mostly ticks all the boxes for me personally, however, I'm still trying to establish this, time difference is a factor I appreciate so still waiting.
Don tells me the air con is missing, (not a big deal), but he will pay for the install of a new system, he is asking $20k obo. No info on the cars history was offered other than it was returned to the US from Germany by Don who has owned it since 1998.......... will keep you updated on this & welcome your comments.
The 71 car in your link is very nice and has been extremely well done & I have the utmost admiration for all involved in its restoration, I did find it when scouring the net but just doesnt fire up for me, all a matter of personal preference in model year/colours etc.
The link below is to a Viginia car I first got involved in, I stated my location from the offset & the dealer has been reluctant to supply any info other than what is in the listing/video, tbh, if he had been a little more up front he would have made the sale by now, he mailed me asking if I was still interested as a local deal had fell through but heard nothing back to my positive reply.
I thought of something that may help you. We have at least eleven Mach 1 owners located on our Mach 1 locator map from England. Maybe you could look them up on the locator map and get in touch with them to get contacts on the possiblity of any Mach 1 for sale all ready there in the U.K. or maybe get some leads on exporters/importers to make your job somewhat easier.
Steven,
Thank you again, I know a few of the owners here & there are Mach 1's currently for sale, unfortunately most are in poor condition due to our weather & some uk cars have been converted to RH drive.
I have had some luck though.....
Found this car, pretty much what I was looking for, waiting on reply from the owner..............
VIN 2F055224657
The sales description reads............................................
You are looking at a beautiful unrestored original 1972 Mach 1 Mustang with ram air, 35,000 original miles, 351 Cleveland Q code with manual transmission. Bought from a collector who was a Ford dealer. Car is in excellent condition, has some original paperwork, build sheet ( could get a marti report) has owner manual, original inflatible tire for spare, buck tag. I was told block is original but I will not guarantee as I'm not the expert. Does not have original battery and needs one seat button. This is a Hurst manual shift four speed with ram air. Build sheet does not include ram air but I believe that this was put on at dealership as an after thought. Not sure, but I think as performance was winding down for muscle cars, EPA restricted things like ram air due to emmissions policies. This car's ram air works. Car runs and sounds excellent, it always starts, even after months of sitting. The radio works, clock does not but I'm told it needs a simple fix. You will not find one as clean as this. I believe the car has been painted once in it's life but it still looks really good. Car also has rimblow steering wheel that should be repaired as it is cracked although the horn works. The rimblow wheels are outrageous if you can find one, this one is worth fixing if you are going to show the vehicle. The car is in storage but it can be viewed by appointment. This car looks as though it has never seen rain or bad weather. It is a real gem and someone could make it even better with very little effort. Comes with a satin red car cover. I am selling the vehicle under what I paid for it. I just never use it and it needs to go to a good home where it will be appreciated. I grew up in the era of muscle cars like this one and so many were modified and hot rodded. This is an original muscle car, like it should be, like it was purchased, not abused, not raced, not changed. Please email me with any questions. Remember, I'm not a dealer, just a lover of beautiful original cars from an era that will never be repeated, you will not be dissapointed.
Looks great in the pictures! If your buying without seeing it in person I would ask for a lot of detailed pictures and have someone take a look for you, sometimes pictures can be deceiving when it comes to the little details. For that price it should be in almost a trailer queen condition! Is it in the UK or would you have to import it?
