I had a 71 mach when I was younger. Lookn' to get one again. But one thing I remember about it thaat I did not like is understeer or plowing when you add power in hard turns. It caused me go go off road a couple times. You can even see the mach 1 in "diamonds are for ever" under steering in the turns during the chase scene. A friend of mine plowed into a motorhome in a turn and totaled his out when I was in high school.
Is there an accepted fix for this? I am just planning what all I will need to do to the mach once I find it. It seems like this car would have oversteer with the heavy front end. Not the case.

Hey I had a 71 mach1 myself it came with 8" steel wheels and narrow little tires. the first thing I did was to get a set of 14"x 7" aluminum wheels with more positive offset and 60 series tires. Which virtually cured the understeer. Now there are 2 companies that produce redesigned front supension kits for the Mustang's including the 71 -73. The one I can remeber is Global West Suspension Systems. There kit sells for about 2500.00. There is an article in the Feb 2009 Issue of Hot Rod on this very suspension. It brings the early Mustang up to current day handling capabilities. I wish I could remember the name of the other company???????
It was a couple years ago and featured in Hot Rod I believe. Look them up on the internet or Hot rod .com You should be able to find them, Hope it helps.

A matched set of larger anti-sway bars and suitable modern tires will cure it to most peoples satisfaction. Numerous sources such as Addco. Suspension is like everything else, you can spend as much as you want and have.
