800 HP for Shelby GT500 Super Snake

Ladies and gentleman… we have now crossed the line from the absurd into the ridiculous! As we all know by now, the 2011 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 is a simply superb automobile. It’s fast, handles great and Ford’s new 412 hp 5.0-liter mill is simply sublime. The problem however is that everyone wants to keep trying to improve on what is already a great car and to be honest, I think we’re now getting out of hand. Take the new offering from Shelby for instance. They are now offering a package for the Shelby GT500 Super Snake that is said to pump out an astonishing 800 hp out of the new 5.0 by way of an even bigger supercharger. Just stop for a moment and think about how much 800 hp is, and then think about how ridiculous it is to have that much power in a live axle pony car.

   

Listen, I’ve driven just about everything on the road from 60 hp cars to 750 hp cars and when I tell you that 800 hp is simply TOO MUCH, I mean it. Think of it this way – power is only useful if you can put it to the pavement, which in the Shelby’s current form, it will not be able to do. What that means is that you’re going to have a car that will get out of hand very quickly and be absolutely useless on a racetrack or the street. Sure, at the end of the day it’s great to walk around like Mr. Big Nuts, but what good is it if when the light turns green, you’re sitting there spinning your wheels. My advise? Wait a few months and buy the new 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302. It’s got 440 hp and 380 lb-ft torque and will most likely leave Shelby’s 2011 GT500 Super Snake for dead on any racetrack in the world.
