Ponder this statement from Porsche’s product manager for the GT line, Andreas Preuninger: the 2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS is the fastest, most powerful street legal Porsche ever built. Now think about other fast, road going Porsches like the storied 959, or the supercar Carrera GT. Guess what? The 620 horsepower GT2 RS is faster that the Carrera GT, by nearly 11 seconds per lap on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. In fact, the GT2 RS turned a lap time of 7:18, which makes it faster than a Maserati MC 12, a Ferrari Enzo or a Pagani Zonda F Clubsport. That’s some elite company to keep.
At a price of $245,000, all that go-fast German engineering doesn’t come cheap. Still, that’s a whole lot less than you would have shelled out for a Carrera GT or a Ferrari Enzo, so a sticker price pushing a quarter million dollars starts to make sense. Porsche bills the GT2 RS as the “ultimate track day weapon”, and I’m inclined to agree with them. No matter what your current skill level behind the wheel is, if you’ve got the coin for a GT2 RS it will quickly make you a better driver, assuming that 620 horsepower to the rear wheels from a rear mounted motor doesn’t kill you first.
