The Koreans have learned a thing or two from the Japanese automakers: first you copy a product, then you improve it. Take the Genesis Coupe, for example: whether the buying public agrees with this or not, it was aimed squarely at Ford’s V6 Mustang.
Autoblog reports that Hyundai’s 4.6 liter Tau V8 motor will get a bigger bore for use in the Genesis sedan and their Equus flagship. Coincidentally (or not), the new motor will displace 5.0 liters (same as the Mustang) and will put out 429 horsepower
(17 more than the Mustang GT). What hasn’t been confirmed by Hyundai is whether or not the 5.0 V8 will see use in the Genesis Coupe. If history is any indication, the answer is “yes”.
Hyundai will likely keep this a secret for as long as they can; after all, why stall sales of the current Genesis Coupe? If it should prove to be true (and my money’s on “yes”), Hyundai could have a serious challenger to the Mustang GT and Chevrolet Camaro SS in their product mix.
