According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration BMW has recalled 15,000 motorcycles due to three entirely different problems. From their enduro and dual-sport line BMW is saying that an attachment for the roll-gear pin could fail with fragments becoming lodged between the rear sprocket and chain thus possibly causing the rear wheel to lock up at speed. The bikes affected are the 2007-8 G 650 X Country; the 2007 G 650 X Challenge and the 2007 G 650 X Motor.
BMW is also recalling 2008–09 F 650 GS and F 800 GS bikes due to the drive chain not being manufactured to specification. The biggest recall and most important involves the 2007-8 K 1200GT; 2007-9 R 1200 GS, R 1200 GS Adventure, R 1200 R, R 1200 RT and the 2007 R 1200 ST. The problem here is that the front brake lines can become stressed, develop cracks and possibly leak. Not good when you’ve only got two contact patches that are 2 inches wide. For those of you with these bruised Bimmer’s, make sure you get them in for service ASAP and make sure you keep the rubber side down.
