I’m not sure I really get the purpose of Limit Racing, which pits tuned and stock vehicles against each other in a checkpoint to checkpoint race on public roads. The catch its that all speed limits and traffic laws must be obeyed, and cars can be DQ’d for infractions like running a red light or failure to signal a turn. The whole thing seems a bit too anal retentive for me, but your mileage may vary.
There’s already a sport like this called road rallying. The difference is that road rallying makes finding the checkpoint a challenge, as you often don’t have specific directions to a checkpoint without decoding some hidden meaning. Worse yet, sometimes directions are too specific, so a navigator must determine which driveway is 500 feet from a hedgerow. Speed is also critical in road rallying, as you get points off fro arriving too early or too late.
I don’t see Limit Racing taking off anytime soon, but I’ll still give props to the organizers. The sport still involves wrenching and driving and isn’t likely to get participants or bystanders killed; like it or not, I’ll call win on this one.
