69 Mach1 Schematic
#1
Wire diagrams have always bugged me. They are fine for their intended purpose of wiring a car, but most people never do that. I find it difficult to figure out how something really works from the darn things. I’m a retired electrical engineer, and in my job I rarely looked at wire diagrams- I always went to the document we developed first, and what we made the wire diagram from- a schematic. Schematics show just the bare essentials- no wire numbers, no colors, no plugs or connectors, and they only show the circuit you want to look at – not everything at once. They simplify the circuit so you can SEE how it works at a glance.

I heard one individual say that these cars are too simple and a schematic isn’t needed. That may be true for most of the car, but I’ll wager that there are few among you who can tell me how the windshield wipers stop (park) so quickly. There is some nifty science involved in that little piece of work. And if it’s true that they are simple, then why are there so many questions about turn signals? And how about the ignition circuit? These circuits are basically the same all the way from 64.5 to 70.

So….what I did was take a wire diagram for my 69 and I backward engineered it into a group of schematics for every system on the car. It’s five pages, and much of it applies to all the classics, since they are all pretty much the same. Enjoy, and don’t ask me to add colors and plugs and stuff – go get a wire diagram for that. By the way, Ford didn’t publish schematics; this is the only one available for our classics.
Well I see that this site didn't accept my upload of pdfs, so I'll resort to BB code. This doesn't work for everyone, but hopefully it will for most- I can see five pages of schematics below using my desktop running Win7:

Cool  Cool nice work on the "Schematics", and I agree a wiring diagram, can be a little daunting at times. The info is there, it's just a little harder to pick out the part you actually need. I have been known to sit down, and draw out my own "schematic" of the system I was working on to eliminate all the other stuff, just to make it simpler. If you want another description, of to much information. Pickup a Rand Mcnally Atlas, from Wal Mart and sit down, and really look over it, and you will quickly realize, it's got way to much info! Most people don't even have a clue. Again Nice Job.

Nicely done. This will be a nice reference for installing my new wire harness. Thanks.
