I had opportunities to own a '69 or '70 back in the early '80s, but like many, young family and no money. Then in 2004, as I was getting ready for my first deployment, a black with gold strips 2004 Mach 1 was sitting at my local dealers lot. My intentions was to put money down on it and pay it off when I returned. The sales associate that was working with me pointed me onto the next generation Mustang, the S197 2005 GT. Since they didn't have any we went inside and went through a sales brochure. I had read about, and seen artist rendition of the new model, but they just looked like a remodeled fox body to me. He showed me a photo of the car in its new package and I fell in love with the old school styling, taking its ques from the 68 Shelby, well at least in my eye. I agreed and we went through the process and ordered one. I only had to put a $1000 bucks down to hold it. I wasn't really sure when I was coming back but my wife would be my go between and would be able to pay for it when it arrived. Longer story shorter, and after 5 more Mustangs, I had a '14 GT that I bought after my last deployment, but didn't think it through. I have nerve damage from one of the 5 back surgeries I've had so pushing a clutch became painful and difficult. So I went back to my dealer to see if we could get an automatic 2014 GT. Lets see if you can see the circle completing itself. Yep new model. The S550. Though I had thought it looked like a Toyota due to the restyling of the front it kind of grew on me so I bought a new 2015 automatic GT. I had my eye on the GT350 and Bullitt but neither came with an automatic. I sold the 2015 GT a few years back and bought an automatic 6 cylinder 2014 to beat around in till something caught my eye. On June 16, 2020 the news broke about the new Mach 1 to fill the void for the now discontinued Bullitt and GT350, and to top it all off it would come in with a 10 speed automatic!! The next day I went into my Ford dealer and spoke with my friend that worked there that I wanted to be put on any list they may have to order one. He moved to another dealership not far away and called me soon after telling me I could order one from his new dealership. I ordered the Velocity Blue 10 speed automatic. It came with a full digital dash and cloth seats since there was only the 600A equipment group available when I ordered. I had to choose between the RECARO seat and the cloth seats. I plan on taking this on a long cross county trip and the RECARO seats would not be near as comfortable as the heated and cooled cloth seats would be for prolong driving. I'm still on the fence about ordering aftermarket leather seats when aftermarket companies catch up with their items. I took delivery March 2, 2021. I finally did it and have my first Mach 1, and I'm beside myself. The seats, as it turns out, are better than I thought. The 10 speed automatic is going to get me into some trouble, I'm sure. The white accent strip next to the black strip really makes it pop on the Velocity Blue paint. I would have loved to have gotten the Fighter Jet Grey, but from what I was told then it would only come in the Track Pack, which has a manual transmission and, well you know where I'm going with that. So I have installed a dash cam front and back, radar/laser detector and to fill the empty space on the doors handle, fitted holders which come in real handy holding my iPhone. If you made it this far thanks.Awesomely...great color!
