I've heard drier sheets for softening clothes will keep mice out of a car. Never tried it myself. They have bait boxes for mice and rats that are made so other animals and pets cannot get to the bait. Those seem to work for me.
I guess you can be thankful they are not rats. Mine is the last house on a residential street and next to me on one side is a home on several acres of land. It was there well before the area was developed. Since they have a few farm animals and birds with different feeds we get rats from their property every summer. If you are outside at the right time you can often see one running down the sidewalk. They haven't got into any of our cars or house. But I keep several rat bait boxes out along the fence separating the property and make certain the bait in them is full. Last summer I caught 5 rats in old school traps and shot one with a BB gun in less than a week before I resorted to using bait boxes.
As far as the headliner, I think the mice will chew through either type. I prefer the look of the original style. But, I'm sure the one piece would be easier to install. On another forum I sometimes visit Mustangstofear brags about their one piece headliner. Actually, Mustangstofear brags about every product they offer and only responds in threads to try to sell something they offer.
