Hello all. I have a 1970 Mach1 that's in the process of body repairs and paint. The original color is dark ivy green with black striping on the hood, however I was thinking of painting the hood all black like some of the 69 Mach1's.

Has anyone painted their 70 Mach1 hood all black?

I would appreciate pro and con comments.

Thank you

Welcome.  I've never seen a 70 Mach 1 painted with 69 Mach 1 hood graphics.  I like the 70 hood graphics as much as the 69.  Matter of preference I guess.

Thank you for the response, I think in 69, there was an option on the Mach1 to have the entire hood painted black except for about 3 inches on either side. I found this photo of a custom 70 Mustang with the hood painted black and thought it was cool.

Your thoughts?

Welcome.

The active membership here caters more to personal preferences rather than concourse original.

We even have members who have the 71/72 Hockey stripe on their 73 Mach 1's!

Either of the hood treatments look great - go for the one you like the best.

Welcome to the site DJT.  I am kind of liking the 69 black-out hood like the one in the picture.  I also like the wheels on that car too.  Like Steven mentioned it is tall personal preference.  Plus, I don't see anything wrong with year crossing.  I have done it with both of my cars.   When you get a chance post some pictures of your car. We like pictures here!

Welcome.

Make it yours unless it's a rare one of one or something like that. Which I wouldn't own. Personal Prefference takes over and enjoy it. Just my thoughts. Again Welcome.

On the 69 Mach 1's the hood blackout was standard and not an option.  At least according to my reference books.  It is like you mentioned.  About 3" around the perimeter remains the car color.  There is also a narrow stripe, about 1/4" wide, outlining the blackout.  Mine 69 is painted that way as well.  I had pictures of my 69 Mach 1 on this site but I can no longer find them.  This is mine below.  It's the original color, Meadowlark Yellow, but, I went with gloss black on the hood only because it is an acrylic enamel paint and flat black acrylic enamels will get chalky over time.

My taste on a 70 Mach 1 is the original 70 style hood graphics it came with.

Owning and driving is the thing.  Purists have their place.  I cannot agree with everything they run with.
