My First Car Love

I never really had a love for any particular car model or brand . I was still in. School in 68 driving an old beat up Ford Fairlane . That car served me well and I never really salavated over any car before but when the 69 Mustangs came out ( especially the Mach 1 ) I fell I love with them.
The summer I graduated 68 from school , all I could think about was getting a full time job and buying a 69 Mach 1 .
I couldn't stand it , I wanted one bad . So. I talked my dad into consigning for a new car. I went to the Ford dealer got the cost , talked to my dad , went over what I could afford . But no dice it was $600 more than what I could afford to finance
It took me 33 yrs after that to get a Mach 1 . And it sure cost me more than that $600 back in 68..
But my kids were all raised and gone and my business was doing well. So it made it much easier this time around.
My Opinion ? The 69 Mach 1 was the pinical for the Ford Mustang

1969 was a good year for the automakers especially Ford with the Mach 1. I read somewhere the 1969 Mach 1 was the demise of the GT models due to lacking sales. I am glad you finally got the car you sought after. Your car is an excellent example of a Mach 1.

I think the Mach 1 was also instrumental in the demise of the Shelby Mustang for a period of years . No body wanted to pay for a Shelly when you could get the Mach 1 so much cheaper.

The 1969 Shelby GT350 base price was $4709 compared to the Mach 1 base price $3122. The difference in price seems pretty nominal in todays world but was probably was a deal breaker for that period in time.

yes , that was a big price differance . I stated above that $600 was more than I could afford to add to the financing of that car. I financed my car for 36 months , that would have added $16.00 a. Month to a payment of $96.00 a month. At that time I was making just about $110 a week . And remember insurance for car like that , well that put me way over the top . Back then $16.00 was a lot of money. So when you look at almost $1600 more for a Shelby , that killed them.

Happy to hear you finally got the car you've always wanted. I too am a big fan of the 1969 Mach 1. The 1970 seemed to have better paint graphics, But the 1969 has a better overall look to it. My preference in the Mustang line up is a bit limited compared to some others. For me, it's 1969 and 1970 Mach 1's and Boss 302's.

I'd thought long and hard about a '69 Mach 1, and the thing that clinched it for me was that they're just too dang expensive these days. Seems like once the '05s came out, everybody had vintage Mustang fever, and the buy-in price for a '69 sportsroof (Mach 1 or otherwise) went through the roof. Of course, the same thing happened with the Challengers when Dodge released the new retro-style (I love Challengers, too).
Your story sounds a lot like mine: always wanted one, waited most of your life to get one, now you have the one you've always wanted. Good for you!
But of course, it has to be said:
