Final pictures before paint. As long as the weather cooperates she should be GREEN next weekend. The whole car gets one coat of primer sealer then top coated. I am pretty happy with everything so far. Although she's a school bus, she is a pretty neat car. You don't see many of them around here.
They were pretty much marketed as a "family car" with a little sporty style, aka GT-A, kinda like the 66-67 Chevelle, they weren't really seen as "Muscle Cars" but if you knew how to use an order sheet. You could easily create one. Back then we called them sleepers! Grocery getter looks, Blow your doors off performance! Yeah it was cool !
Thanks everyone...I can't wait to get her painted. I thought I was missing the front bumper filler panel and when I was searching for it I found the grille and decided to through it on the car. Now I remember why I liked this car for first time I saw one. It was the stacked headlights and the big grille.
Finally painted but not out of the woods. We need to wet sand a few areas and reshoot them. We have a few lighter areas between the panels from when we pulled the gun away. Metallic is tricky but can be fixed. Live and learn. Otherwise, I am pretty happy with the results and color choice. What do you think?
I like the green. Will it be color sanded then rubbed out, glaze . . . (a lot of work to color sand) or simply rubbed out. polished . . .? If it were mine I think I would skip the color sand and simply rub out, glaze, etc.
Metallics are more difficult to spray. I've sprayed a metallic only once. Luckily it turned out fine. For some unknown reason my oldest brother has no problem with them. One key factor is a good high quality spray gun.
The plastic on the walls looks familiar. It's a pain but it works.
Thanks Mike, I am happy with the color choice and the end result. Once the chrome trim pieces are put on, a stripe added, and the new wheels it will break up the all the green. To answer your question, it will be wet sanded, compounded and glazed. This will take out all the little imperfections in the paint. Yes, the metallic is a bit trickier to paint than a solid color as we learned. Nothing too bad but we will end up reshooting some areas.
