Shaker Rebuild - Bambus - 10-01-2018

Hey All,
New to the forum. Have a 69 Mach, owned for 17 years. Finally getting into rebuild. The shaker is in rough shape. Scoop itself will be fine with a little love, but the rest of the assembly is either in rough shape or missing parts. 1. Could order OEM parts, I guess, but that’ll be expensive. 2. Could purchase after market assembly, cheaper but not flesh from the original.

Opinions and recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
b!

Sounds like you need to contact Ohio Mustang, He's a member here and could possibly have some old stuff or might be able to get some NOS, parts to fix you up. Worth looking into. Just type Ohio Mustang into the search bar in the upper right, and that should get you to him, and send him a message. Good Luck.

Welcome to the site.  How rough is rough?  The reason I ask is I know you can source individual replacement parts for the shaker assembly.  If you think the shaker assembly exceeded its life expectancy and you are unable to restore it your best bet may be an aftermarket shaker.  I have seen them for as low as $400 and up to $700. If you go this route shop around and read reviews.

If my memory serves me correctly I have seen complete Ford shakers in good condition on Craigslist or eBay in the area of $1,500 - $2,000.  That is a big nugget to bite and they are probably far and few between trying to locate one. But...I am sure there is someone out there has one for sale somewhere.

Out of curiosity is your car an R code?

You should be able to get any missing or worn out shaker parts from Perogie Enterprises.  As far as those aftermarket shakers.  I have heard nothing good about them.  They are fiberglass and poorly make.  Open to outside air all the time with no way to add the door assembly.

Is the hood still in good condition or will it need replacing as well?  If you need a new hood, that could help you decide whether or not to reinstall the original shaker.  Might be worth simply saving all the shaker parts for now and go with a stock hood and the Mach 1 scoop at this time.  Then later address the shaker assembly if you want to.  I know some people think a shaker hood is the best thing since sliced bread.  I used to be one of them.  But they have drawbacks of limiting you to a stock intake manifold unless you want to do fabrication to your original shaker assembly.  You are also stuck using the small 13" x 2-1/2" or so air filter.  When I got my Mach 1 back in 1995 I wished it had a shaker hood assembly.  Now that I am older I am more than happy with the original stock hood and Mach 1 hood scoop.

Thanks much. It’s a Windsor.

At least with the 351 Windsor, if you use an intake that is taller than stock, there is the option of using an air cleaner base, some call it a can, from a 390 or 428 car as it drops down a little more than those for the 351W.

The fiberglass repro shaker assemblies are all the same regardless of where you purchase it.  Actually that applies to most all reproduction parts.  Reproduction part sellers carry the same item of any given part.  Some choose not to carry some items.  Prices are all very close.  Shipping will vary.

I have seen individual metal reproduction shaker parts in NPD's catalog.  That might be a viable option depending on what you need to restore it.

Since the shaker scoop needs to be modified to work with aftermarket intake manifolds, I wouldn't spend money on it until you know how the motor is going to be built.

Thanks for the advice. Especially the info in the taller intake and options to choose from. Contacted Perogie today. They are only an hour or so away. I’m pretty sure I’m going to have them rebuild what I have and include what I don’t. I’ll ensire I keep the new manifold in mind as it is prepped for the car. I’ll let you know how it turns out. SF, bambus!

RE: Shaker Rebuild - 1969_Mach1 - 10-02-2018

I'm in California and have purchased many used original or NOS parts from Perogie Enterprises.  They have always treated me well.  They're more into original type restorations but they might have some knowledge on what intake manifolds will work with a shaker without any modifications.

"Master Blaster" is a member here, and he has done some work on making a shaker fit with different manifolds, might send him a message. Haven't heard from him in quite a while???  Send him a message, as he should be able to help.
