Hello All,

Used to be a an active member on 69Stang forum then this happened about a year ago.

Yes, that is my 69 Fastback burning that I was able to roll out of the garage but not far enough leaving me with this.

I really liked that car and did a lot of engineering on it like rack and pinion, custom strut rods, custom Monte Carlo bar and coil overs. Thing handled awesome.

Well my sister, A huge Beatles fan, told me to take a sad song and make it better. So, after the insurance company treated me really, really, really well, I got this early last summer from a collector down in FL who passed away.

It's a 351, FMX Built in Metuchen. I got the Marti report just the other day and interestingly enough, it is supposed to have the rare white striping. I'm not sure how that would look with the Bright Blue Metallic paint. It also has white interior.

Just to clarify, I'm not exactly a new member. I signed up way back in 2011 but couldn't remember my password so I created a new account. At the time, I was looking for a 70 Mach1 and ended up with the 69 that I lost in the fire.

Hi Jim,

I am glad you found your way back to the site.   I am sure what happened to you with the fire is every classic car owner's nightmare.    We put so much time and money into the our cars and drive them with pride and to lose it to an accident or garage fire is just plain tragedy.  I am sure even posting the pictures was difficult. I am glad to hear you were properly insured with a good company.

I like your sister's Beatles advice and glad to see you're Back in the Saddle" again (Aerosmith).  You're new car looks great and I think I agree with you on the white stripe.  Was the original white stripe down the side of the car?

Mike

Hey Jim,

Great to have you sign back in!

Terrible tragedy, but great eventual outcome.  Thanks for sharing your story.

Wow what a story. Glad to see you overcome it, and it looks like you got a beautiful car. I remember when my sons, 85 Mustang caught fire and burnt to the ground while he waited for the Fire Department. He said it took them 10 minutes to get there he said it was burnt to the ground in 7. He also said it's very disheartening to stand there, and watch you pride and joy go up in flames. But like you he overcame that, and he now has a Screaming Yellow 06" GT, that was a "Show" car and has been tweaked on. Say's he can't even remember the 85". Good to have you back with us.

Thanks everyone. Yes, loosing everything was definitely a test on my mental capacities. Honestly? The car was actually fairly low on the list. All my tools, some given to me by my parents and brother, childhood items that I had hanging and all of the items I had stored in the trusses are probably missed more. I still find myself thinking I have something that isn't there. A weird one is not having the spare nut/bolt bin that you collect over decades.

On to more positive thoughts though. I will try when I get time to post some of the custom parts I made for the 69 along with the drawings in case someone wants tackle them.

"Was the original white stripe down the side of the car?"

No, This is a 70 MAch1 so the white striping is for the hood and trunk lid. I've looked for pictures of a blue with white combo but can't find any. Most of the time, the white striping was done on black or dark green.

The new car is pretty awesome. The only thing I might be a little disappointed with is the engine build. It's compression is way too high and I can't find any pump gas that it can run on without it pinging. It has an aluminum top end and I might just pull it and put a 408 stroker kit in it. I've always wanted to build one of those.

Very nice 1970 Mach 1.  That color looks better with the black stripes than it would with the white stripes.  I'd guess that's why it currently has black stripes.

I vaguely recall seeing your thread of the fire on the other forum.  It's great you were able to replace the car with the insurance settlement.  Was the car insurance by any chance Hagerty?

RE: New Member 1970 - Jimjific22 - 03-18-2018

Yes I had a thread on the other site.

No I wasn't insured by Hagerty. I was insured by Liberty Mutual. I can't speak highly enough of them. I have never been through anything like this. There were three claims: the structure, contents and the car. I didn't have to haggle on any of them on price.
