Engine Updated but still some problem to solve - RobSweden - 05-17-2015

Hi

New Intake Manifold edelbrock performer
New Carburator 600 cfm
MSD Cables
New Spark plugs
New Ignitor System + Coil

I have set the timming, but I could not see any scale ? just twomarks should they line up? Should I set ignition timing with vacum on or off ?

Everything runs smooth on idle , but its powerless when try to accelerate. The fuel line is not pinched, standard fuelpump.
Is the carbs jets to small from factory ? Any jet suggestions on 351w 2v with my setup ?

Regards Rob

Don't know about the marks but I believe you set the timing with the vacuum disconnected and the hose plugged. Is the vacuum hose hooked up to the distributor? Mine was powerless off the start when I bought it but found out the hose wasn't even connected to the vacuum advance.

Yes Its the right one ftont size of the carb. So All vacum hoses are checked. Could the fuel pump be to weak so it doesnt deliver enough pressure to the carb ?

Clean or sand the balancer by the mark
There should be a scale
The marks lined up would probably be set
at TDC. You probably need more advance
Timed is adjusted with the vacuum line plugged

After cleaning a Little bit this appears...

After some more cleaning and bending, it finally appears Eusa_dance

Before you go any further, set the base ignition timing at idle with the vacuum advance disconnected. If you have no spec, start at 10 degrees before top dead center. Most 351W motors will run pretty well there. Also, remove the distributor cap and check the mechanical advance for smooth operation. Simply grab the rotor and try to rotate it. It should rotate some against spring tension in one direction and not rotate in the other direction. The mechanical advance is needed for performance. Vacuum advances are primarily needed for fuel economy.

After you get it running great. Those look like MSD spark plug wires. So get some MSD Pro Clamp spark plug wire separators/clamps, P/N 8843, to tidy up the plug wires and stop them from rubbing against the inner fender panels. It might take two kits depending on how you route the wires. I like the MSD Pro Clamps, they work well and have a screw hole in the bottom piece so you can attach them to bracket if needed.

Best Regards,
Mike

Ok Thanks, Il give it a try tonight

For best (not upgrade) performance make sure there is no 'slack' before the springs can be felt (by hand). Removing that slack will very slightly retard the timing and enhance performance.

Hi is it the springs that holds the rotor you mean ?

Also update, we retried everything yesterday, and changing the control for the acc pump on the carb the car would actually run whn you hit the gas. But it feels like its not getting enough fuel.. can the stock fuel pump produce a too low pressure for the carb ? After all thoose setting the engine nearly started when it got cold...
So its back to square 1 again
Im gonna get a compression tester and check if something is wrong.
I know that its not a nascar engine but it should preform better then this.. Looking inside the fuelfilter that came with the carb, you can nearly see that its pumping in fuel, seems like air is trapped there.

Btw how much should the idle rpm be ?
