Ok guys, here is the situation. My car is a 69 Mach with 428 CJ. I just finished my C6 to 4 speed toploader conversion. Everything is working great so far. When I bought the car it had a 3.91 gear in it with an unknown locker. I am changing the gearing to the 3.50 that it originally came with and while I’m doing that I might as well replace the locker. I have done all the research and have decided to go with the helical gear limited slip differential instead of the more common clutch pack style. My question is, does anyone have any recommendations on the brand? The pricing varies quite a bit and I can not find a website that has any kind of ratings or rankings of the different brands. I always check ratings before I buy pretty much anything. Any help you guys can give me will be greatly appreciated.

I have no experience but I will be interested to hear the input of the others and eventually what your own experience teaches you!

Hi Steven,
I’ll update here when I decide which one to go with and when I get on the road after I finish the job.
Boy I wish I knew, we either lived with whatever it came with, most usually a one legger. Or if we were serious we welded the spider gears usually with mixed results. I.ve seen many a set of spider gears shattered. Because nobody had enough money for a "Locker"  LOL!  Confused
I decided to go with a Eaton Detroit Locker helical style. About midway on the price scale. No additive needed and doesn’t wear out like the clutch pack style. Should be here before next weekend so I can get the gears changed to the more street 3.50 from the 3.91. Right now I can start out in 3rd gear. Thumbup
I’ll let everyone know what I think of this style of locker.
Cool I wish I could have been more help. I'll be excited to here what you think of the Eaton. My 71 Mach1 was a one legger, from the factory. Several years later I blew up the original 351C, so I built and installed a 500+ HP 351C. I don't know why, but if I was in a straight line, and nailed the gas it would spin both rear tires without question, now going around a corner it would still one leg it. Never quite figured that one out???  Huh

I use an original NOS Ford OEM 4-pinion trac-lock with 31 spline side gears and axles.  Found it at Perogie Enterprises.  They also sell rebuit OEM versions.

That is good to know - thanks!

We will be looking forward to the update on how the Eaton works for you.
