Hello everybody.
Hope you can help me out. I am currently half way through a C6 to 4 speed Toploader conversion on my 69 Mach 1 428 CJ. I need to find out the correct crossmember number for my conversion. I am told that the small block crossmember will work but will make the transmission and shifter higher in the tunnel than they should be. Does anyone know the difference between the small block and the big block crossmember and the Ford part number for the big block? Having trouble finding the correct number on the internet and the big block crossmembers are just as hard to find as the transmission.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
About all I can offer is I did an auto trans to toploader conversion my 1969 Mach 1 with a 351W.  I used a crossmember for a C4 trans.  I simply had it laying around and it fit fine.  Later research indicated the C4 and manual trans use the same crossmember for small blocks.  I got lucky.  An aftermarket Hurst Competition Plus shifter fits just fine through the original auto shifter hole in the floor.

Here is a little info I found. 69-70 Mustang FE Front and Trans Cross members questions - 332-428 Ford FE Engine Forum

Apparently big block manual trans cars have a unique trans crossmember.

Try Perogie Enterprises in New Jersey.  Even if they do not have a used original or NOS crossmember in stock they certainly can answer your questions.

1969_Mach 1, thanks for the response. Apparently there is more dip in the crossmember for the big block FE engines than the small block. Other than that they look the same. I’ve tried Perogie for other things without much success. Mansfield Mustang says he can get his hands on some but is on vacation for the next two weeks. I’ll probably have to wait for him to get back. He can do my driveshaft too. Will still keep investigating in the mean time.
I guess I've been fortunate and have always had good luck with Perogie.  But mine is a 351W car so not as rare.  I used to think Perogie was expensive but after a while I realized they were in line with everybody else.  But, the more rare the part the higher the price regardless of where you go.

Yeah, everything for mine is harder to find and definitely more expensive. I went to the link you sent and it basically confirmed what I thought. I need to find a crossmember stamped “390 STD”.
Thanks for your help. Awes
