How do you tighten the cables on exterior mirrors to keep them in adjustment without trying to change cables or mirrors
Those cable for the remote mirrors. Work on a push pull system, all 3 are supposed to be tight / snug, and as you move the bat handle one cable pulls the Mirror one direction the opposing cable or cables, then move the opposite direction There shouldn't be any real looseness in the cables, and I don't remember any adjustment, so to speak. Seems to me there was a small set screw to hold the cables in place, but not for adjustment???  Take it out of the car, and soak the entire cables in a pan of ATF. That will creep into the cables, and loosen them up, and may cure your problem. If not, sounds like you need to find new cables. Hope it helps.

Thanks for your input. This for the mirrors on a 69/70 Mach 1. I don't see any set screws. I am not trying to loosen them up, but to keep them from moving the mirror itself after you set it. I am talking about the cables inside the  casing that the cables move in. Ialso have a ranchero with the  same problem.
These were mediocre at best when new. I've seen stuff jammed in around the glass to keep them from moving, so rest assured you're not the only one who has had trouble with them. You may never be able to solve this issue. Sorry I wish I knew more.
