i WILL BE AT SEMA THIS YEAR IF ANYONES GOING FROM THIS FORUM.

Legendary custom car builder Chip Foose is cooking up something grand to debut at the 2017 SEMA Show in Las Vegas: a 1971 Ford Mustang Mach 1, nicknamed “Mach Foose”, with a 2010 Mustang GT underpinning the body. The wheelbase is lengthened by three inches, the entire front-end structure redesigned with new strut towers and a cleaner engine bay, and the rear quarter panels replaced with those from a 1970 model.

Why from a 1970 car? The panels are a bit wider and more shapely, allowing them to accommodate the wider rear wheels and tires requested by the client who’s commissioned the car.

Interesting.

It just goes to show that the 71-73's are coming into a bit more popularity.  Foose's build will no doubt aid that popularity.

Too bad I am not scheduled to be at SEMA.
Sorry, I guess it's just me.  I still don't like the project much.  Now, not trying to discredit the great job they did installing the 70 sportsroof quarter panels, but they don't look correct on that Mustang. I think if 70 quarter panels were suited for that Mustang, Ford designers would have simple continued to use them. Plus, it would have saved Ford some tooling cost.

The aesthetics might improve as they progress. At this stage it looks like a car for the 1970's movie, Corvette Summer.
I'll agree with you on the quarter panel exchange.  I like the 71-73's as produced.  I have seen all kind of reworking with grills, taillights etc. and to me the rework never looks quite right.

Still, with a name like Foose putting his name on a 71-73 Mustang it will bring more attention to these well deserving years.  I'm just glad that I already have mine tucked away for whenever it is that I can finally get to it.
