HELP I am in need of a tailhousing for a 71-73 Mustang or cougar top loader 4 speed trans. Engineering number on tailhousing is under shifter mounting pad C4ZR-7040-A. I blew up the main shaft/output shaft in mine on my 3rd pas and it took out the tailhousing and slip yoke. I have all the parts coming but a tailhousing. Please help !! Feel free to msg me or call my cell 307-202-0652. Desperatly trying to find the part to make the June 11th race.

Hey YLWHRSE. I don't know where there is one immediately, but I've dealt with Tennessee Standard Transmission several times through the years, and they might be able to help. 888-278-3699 or they are probably on the internet. You might also look up Mustang Mike he's a member here if you don't know that, he has a 67 Fairlane with a top loader, and might know something? Just a couple thoughts.

So You Broke Your Car DRAG RACING!!! ------------Way to go! The only way to find a weak link is to break it! JTS

Yes I broke on the 3rd pass so it was a short day for the car anyway. Never expected that to break, I was expecting to wad up the factory driveshaft LOL. Thanks for the heads up Ill try and get ahold of him.

Hi YLWHRSE,

I just sent you a PM but was not able to upload pictures. The only tail housing I have lying around is part number DOZR-7A040-A. I don't think this will work for your application. If you are in a real hurry, David Kee Top Loader's sells a universal tail housing.

Sorry,

Mike
Thanks Mustang Mike, sounds like he needs all the help he can get. JTS

You're welcome sir!
YLWHRSE,

Try calling this outfit. They sometimes have tailhousings in stock.

Way to help out guys!
I know this tread is a couple of months old. When time is important, Perogie Enterprises in New Jersey would be my first phone when searching for a used part like this. If they don't have it, then David Kee Toploaders for a new one.

With a C4 engineering number cast onto it, is that one of the first toploaders with a 25 spline tail shaft instead of the later 28 or 31 spline tail shafts?
Hi YLWHRSE,

I don't think the C4 casting necessarily correlates to the spline size of the transmission. Here is a link to David Kee's site which shows the casting ID's for tailhousings and you can see some of the C4 casting numbers are 28 spline. It appears the 25 and 28 spline are interchangeable but I may be wrong.
