I've seen a few black 71-73 Mach1s and I have always been thought black wasn't available on the Mach1 those years. Not that they don't look cool or hot. I love the look with argent silver stripes and magnums. But could somebody please give me the low down on this. Was black available on 71-73 mach1's?
Good question as I can't ever remember seeing a factory black one either??? wow. JTS 71 Mach1
In 71 it was on the color list - code A
In 72 and 73 it was a 90.00 special order option.

That could explain some of the rarity. JTS 71 Mach1
True and I was a dumb ass. My 1st Mach 1 of these years was a 1971 car 4psd 429 car with AC. I bought it from the parts manager at the dealership, Rosen Novak Ford in Denver were I worked at in 1986. Still kicking myself in the butt for selling that car when I got engaged in 1990 thinking I needed the money. If only I had an idea of what its value would have gone up to. It was a little used around the edges but was an original unmolested car with no rust. Mainly really just interior was fairly rough as it was a daily driver but the rest was solid. I love the one I have now but a big block 4 spd car is kind of a holy grail any more.

Yes sir!! That's the car. Gorgeous. I always loved that color combination!! My 2 favorite colors on these cars have always been black with Argent striping and bright yellow with black striping. Some if the other colors are good too but those are my personal favorites. On a side note as a 3rd preference I would say is that bright yellow/green color, I don't know it's name and I've never seen one in person that color but it's almost chartreuse. When that color has black interior instead of green tgat I've seen in pictures, I think it's pretty sharp. YLWHRSE
That other color you referred to could be Bright Lime. I saw a '71 mach in that color at a car show. You could spot the car a mile away.
I believe you are correct. That color has always intrigued me for the fact that I think it wasn't real popular for some reason. I've seen pictures of several mach 1's all together and if there is 1 of that color it really stands out. Not sure but just guessing there were not many produced in that color. 1 pic I saw was of a 71 boss 351 car in that color that had been restored. It appeared that was the original color and it was gorgeous. I started a file of pics on my computer of tge cars for reference while doing my car and the restoration on that boss was spot on damn near perfect. YLWHRSE
