Hello,

I am restoring my 73 Mach I that came from the factory with Forged Aluminum Wheels and had a question about the spare. Was the spare that was included with the car when new also mounted with the forged aluminum wheel, or was it an economy spare? Just trying to plan my restoration.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

Steve
There are others on here who will be able to answer your questions definitively but I will give you an educated answer.

Your car's spare would have been of the space saver variety.

Now, let's see how wrong I am!
I believe your right Steven. I sure can't remember ever seeing a car come with a fifth aluminum wheel. all spares along those years were steel and of the space saver variety. Unless you put a gun to the dealers head and forced him to give you one. I'm 98% sure they didn't come with a fifth aluminum wheel. But as you said we'll see. JTS71 Mach1
Good question! I added the aluminum wheels to my 73 and have wondered about that myself, but from what I've seen around the net, it appears they did not come with a 5th aluminum wheel. I have an extra aluminum wheel that I may mount a spare on one of these days.
My kid brothers '73 came from the factory with the forged aluminum wheels. He bought it from the original owner. The car is fitted with a space saver spare. GXR
Thanks for the replies. I'll need to locate a Space Saver tire/rim for the trunk now, and I'll have a spare aluminum rim for the car, as I have five of them.

I appreciate the help.

Steven

None had an aluminum spare
Pretty sure the standard spare was a 14 inch steel wheel, full size tire
Space saver was an option
Does your trunk have the special space saver bracket ?

Not sure what said bracket looks like. Could you please post a picture of one so I can be sure?

Steven
Bracket is welded to trunk floor right (passenger) side just aft of the rear tire tub. Rectangular in shape, bent in a "U" configuration. You can't miss it. GXR
