My 72 Q code Mach 1 runs good on pump gas as long as it's "Premium" (93 octane). I always pass up the generic gas & sips, in favor of BP gold or Shell premium brands. I normally try to avoid fuel that is enriched with a lot of methanol. That being said, I am curious if an octane additive would either boost my car's performance or allow me to occasionally go with a silver grade instead of gold. Years ago I know that on the market were some peroxide based octane boosters. Now, however the only ones I've been able to find are methanol based. Isn't methanol the active ingredient in fuel system de-icers? Am I worried needlessly about too much methanol?

I appreciate any feedback positive negative or just mean spirited,
Thanks,
Keith S.
P.S.
Attached is a pic of the octane booster in question.
I like Octane 104

I usually only go with half what the instructions say. I'm nervous it could damage something but even with going half the instructions I definitely feel the difference.

I have looked and researched those wanna be octane boosters like your pictured product. Those and others similar IE 104+ and the list is log and distinguished -only actually increase octane .2 or .3 points. So if you start with say 91 premium you would wind up with 91.3 octane with those. Not worth the money. However there are some new octane enhancers on the market. One of which I am familiar with because I became a dealer is Torco Accelorator. They effectively alter the chemistry of premium pump gas and can indeed raise the octane several points. You can take 91 premium nd wind up with 105 octane fuel. However its not cheap by any means. It takes 32 ounces of the Accelorator per 5 gallons of fuel to get to the 105 octane rating and it runs anywhere from around 30 dollars a quart to 38 depending on where you are at. So if you factor the cost of race fuel , buying it in drums and shipping it works out fairly close to what race fuel cost. However it is quite convenient if you drive your car as much as I do. I usually carry 4 quarts in my trunk and add before I fuel up. There are other brands now that make similar products - Race gas and others. I would just be sure you need it and would benefit from it before spending the money. Mine needs it so I use it.

I use Torco Accelerator. I don't know specifically how it raises the octane. But Torco advertises it as concentrated race fuel. The highest octane pump gas in my area is 91. I've mixed 4 oz. to 6 oz. of Torco Accelerator with 5 gallons of 91 octane pump gas. I notice a significant improvement with the Torco Accelerator. More overall power and crisper throttle response.
