I have been keeping my eyes open for a running car to enjoy while I continue to work on my Mach 1. About a month ago my son and I came across a one owner 85 GT convertible but finances prohibited any transaction - that and it was white.

Last week I came across a Craigslist add in Tucson for this 86 GT convertible and it was RED (well maroon). I am it's fourth owner but it has been kept in very good condition. The man I purchased it from was very meticulous as seen in his garage and other cars.

These pictures were taken by my GoPro as my camera is currently out of town. I'll add better pictures when I get the camera back.

Very nice pick up from Craigslist. You can never have too many stangshttp://mach1club.com/images/smilies/Smiles72110/biggrin.gif
Good on you Steven.

How do passengers get in to the back seat, does the seatbelt unhook from the front seat?

You will have to modify your owned list at the bottom of your posts SSig_goodjob
Thanks guys,

Steve O - yes, the seat belt extension on the front seat is just to keep the seat belt handy. It retracts back out of the way.

I have actually not yet enjoyed the car as I purchased it without another driver. The former owner was generous enough to allow me to store it right where it was till my wife and I get back out of Mexico to pick it up hopefully next week.

Yes, modified signature coming up!
You should have gone with the WHITE one! Biggrin
Way to go Steven very nice looking GT for an 86. I was thinking that 86 was the first year for the ground effects??? Or maybe not????? If it runs as good as it looks. It will have lots of smiles per mile left in it. JTS 71 Mach1
Yeah - I'm not sure about the ground effects year. I remember back in the day that the LX without all the GT plastics was lighter and consequently a little faster but I don't remember the exact year.

1986 was the first year of the EFI and it was rated by about 25 horsepower less than the 85 carbed GT. Still, they run well. Back then I would have only gone for the 85 but today I am happy to have the EFI.
Yeah as I've said before. Two of the greatest advancements in automotive technology, have been electronic ignition and electronic fuel injection. Those two things have raised the bar further then anything else has, with regards to reliability and durability. While I still love the old school dual points and carbs. A well sorted electronic ignition and fuel injection system is hard to beat. Especially where gas mileage is concerened. JTS 71 Mach1
Great looking car Steve. 1987 was first year for full ground effects as for body change again.Fuel injection is the only way to go imo thats why I fuel injected mine.Bravo
Well, it has been a week and a half (but who's counting) and tomorrow I will be picking the 86 GT up for the first drive! I plan to enjoy it for a day and a half and then drop it off at a friends house who has offered to store it and enjoy it while I am out of country.

I will post again after I have had some seat time!
