I Finally got the power steering on my mach 1 going but it is extremely loose and sensitive and car wanders all over the place any ideas on what needs attention now?SCo_hmmthink
Your alignment needs more toe-in?

You need a steering damper?

I don't know - just offering suggestions.
I'm taking it to work in the next few days to check the alignment. Everything else has been replaced.
Check the rag joint in the steering column just to be safe.
I Replaced the ragjoint when I rebuilt the car. The Steering gear box is the only original part left of the original steering. It may be out of adjustment, I can't remember if the sector screw turns in or out to tighten it. I know it is not loose as in too much steering wheel play it just the opposite, turn the wheel a 1/2 in. it responds instantly.

I have a 1970 Mach 1 and had the same problem last year.

After alot of money and new parts we found that the strut rod bushings on the front frame of the car under the radiater was the main culpret.
I had just installed all new components and my steering gear box is still a little lose. The mechanic tried to turn in the screw on the box but it bottomed out and cannot be adjusted due to wear.

The new strut bushings stopped the side to side jumping that scarred the crap out of me at speed.

I now still have sensitive steering but since its new and tight, its not that bad....It just feels like driving some old cadillac, smooth and silky...
Sort of wierd for a muscle car.

After I get my new steering gearbox or get mine rebuilt, I hope its better and that I can add resistance to it and remove the super easy steering on the power steering set up I have.

Good luck.Crazy
