I had to remove the speedometer When I was changing out the speedometer lamps, and I found out my speedometer cable was broke. I could get the outer cable disconnected off the back of the speedometer but I could not disconnect the inner cable. I'm kind of affraid to put the linemans pliers to it. Is the inner cable supposed to simply pull out of the speedometer? This one definately is stuck in/on it.

Yes if you have removed the outer cable from the back of the speedometer housing and all thats sticking out is the inner piece of cable, (looks like wound wire) then yes, it's just stuck, a little wd 40 or similar should fix it. And it does pull straight out. JTS 71 Mach1
you will be ahead to order a cable and housing assembly. it isn't real hard to change.
Yes, just pulls out. Must be slightly twisted in its seat. Maybe if you held the speedometer and twisted the cable a little and then pull it will come free.
Just check first that you do need a new cable. I thought mine was broken but it was actually a shorter cable that goes into a speed sensor then the cable comes out of that and goes to the gearbox.

You could have one of these under your dash....... http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/69-1970-Musta...563d2070d6
