I had a problem with not working reverse lights on my `69 Mach1.
A long time searching and swearing revealed that there were 3 errors responsible.
I hope my little how to helps other users:
1. Wrong bulbs installed.
Below is a picture of the wrong and the right ones.
2. The cable was drilled into below the door sill
When bridging the black/red contacts on the wiring harness from the car every time the fuse for turn signals and heaterswitch flew.
3. The copper plate for Reverse in the neutral safety switch was worn and the whole Switch was dirty
This repair was not so easy. After removing Center console, shift lever and selector, I had to carefully disassemble the switch still installed. Cleaned the switch and copper plates, assemble and adjust again, just as it says on the label and reassemble the whole thing in reverse order.
Since my switch is from a later model, it has 3 copper plates, one of which is not used in a `69. So I changed the plates as you can see on the picture below.
Closing the switch was not easy, but after I had bent the metal tabs, all copper plates had contact and finally the reverse light and the neutral do as they should.
Greetings
