WowI've got a 72 q code mach 1 with a 4 speed (long ratio), it has a 3.25 traction loc. Non stock parts include long tube headers, Edelbrock performer intake and carb. and finally it has a MSD hei ignition with manual timing advance/ retard of 15%. The cam is rather lopey not stock but unknown make or model. Everything else is stock. I'm rebuilding the carb, hope to have it tuned in before Monday. As a veteran bench racer I wonder what kinda 1/4 mile E.T. I can hope for realistically. My goal, initially is mid 14 sec. What do you think? I'd welcome any and all suggestions, Thanks,
Keith
I think you will easily achieve your goal.i have a 73 Q code with no ram air and have a question for you but first i would like to comment on a tid bit i am not sure is true.Ford slipped one by the EPA on cars that were 4 brrl AND had ram air. any way is that MSD you have require the box and can you control the advance and retard from the cock pit?is is a drag racers type of set up? and i guess you would advance your timing for race day ,right?i know my chevy circle track car was advanced.im looking for a new ign system.the old dual pnt is done.i also will be having to rebuild a holley 650.i had some back firing issues thru the carb does that ruin the power valves?good luck with the 1/4 mile let use know how you do.thanx for any suggestions Kyle
The HEI that i have is setup with a blue diamond spark box that includes a dash mounted timing advance/retard wheel. It is a drag racing unit. I intend to remove the advance/retard set up but for now at least I'll leave the msd hei. n By the way my 72 was a factory 4bbl. and as you can see it has the ram air. interestingly the Marti report for my car doesn't list ram air. by the way sorry for showing my engine in triplicate!

Ah Man - so you don't have three identical cars! Sad

Not with those gears.

Shouldn't be too difficult. My M-code 4-speed '71 has 3:25's. Horsepower is 290 at rear wheels. Car runs 14.4 @ 106. That's launching it just off idle so it will hook. Street tires and full exhaust. (Even a spare tire!)
