it need some tlc, but she's at the body shop as we speak for a full make-over in the original color, new stripes also arrived.

So far we installed electronic ignition, new wires, sparks, cap, etc. so she runs smooth.

With this introduction, I'd like to aks a few questions :

- does the '73 140hp SAE engine have the same hp as the '71 302ci with 210hp, just measured it with exhaust, air filter, etc. while before they didn't?
- the engine is full stock and has a single tip exhaust Confused what's a nice and economic way to get some extra horsepower, whithout braking the bank? Some headers/dual exhaust? 4v carb setup? (wich?) or..?

All tips are welcome New
Welcome to the club! Wow Belgium!! One of the best parts of running this site is seeing all the people come from all over the world! Love it!!

If you want to gain power, I would say add a cold air intake, good flowing dual exhaust, and rear gears. In my opinion this gives the most seat of the pants power and wont break the bank, providing you can do most of this.

Nice looking Mach 1! Jump on in man make yourself at home!! Welcome2

You'll notice I reduced your photo sizes a little so they were easier for members to load and cut down on bandwidth. I think they still look great! Rockxtreme
Thanks for the welcome Bow

I've checked out all those great looking Mach1's on the site, most of those are awsome.

I noticed none of them have the 302ci 2v, was it an engine that was hardly ordered in the mach1? (horsepower wise I could totaly understand Cool )
Actually, it was the standard engine in the '71-'73 mach 1. I estimate about 40% of machs produced during these years came from the factory with 302-2V's, not so uncommon. As far as the horsepower ratings, mustangs built up until the 1972 model year had factory horsepower rated at the flywheel, 1972 and newer were rated at the transmission tailshaft with all accessories operating. 1971 302's also had a higher compression ratio than the '72 and '73's, thus a little more power. Typically, accessories like power steering, air conditioning, and even an alternator - can collectively rob you of about 50-60 horsepower.
Also, automatic transmissions tend to steal more horsepower than manual transmissions. This is due to the automatic's heavier rotating mass. (weight of internal parts)
Mach1club mentioned several mods you could perform to give you more power. I would also recommend a mild performance camshaft and lifters, as well as a double roller timing chain & gears. The stock cam specs. for the 302-2V are pretty lame.
Welcome to the site. It's great we are getting more members from around the world that appreciate Mach 1's.

Yours look in good solid condition, keep us posted on your progress.

In regards to the 73 HP rating; the 73's also had stricter air pollution standards to comply with and I understand that robbed some of the HP too! No matter which engine you have these cars are great cruisers and turn heads where ever you go!

Agreed I read about the polution restrictors too, but I wonderd what exactly they changed as compared to the 71 302ci 2v.

Is there a way to get rid off these polution restrictors? Or are these more permanent restrictions as to other pistons and cam...
Welcome Vintage Speed.

Glad to have you here with us. Your 302 can be woke up with a minimum of work and you can do that in stages. Intake, carb, exhaust, cam, heads ..
Here we go, it's welded and painted Clap_

now I need to attach the chin spoiler, and put up the mach stripes.

I picked a different red, I wanted a little more bright so this was the result. I like it.
It's looking very nice in that new coat of red! The stripe will add that much more. Congratulations!
