The 2011 Mustang has been winning quite a few awards this year including the Cars.com Shoppers’ Choice as well as being named one of Car and Driver’s 10 Best. Ford can now add one more to the trophy case with Popular Mechanics naming the Ford Mustang the Top Performance Car of 2010. Unlike the Car and Driver award, which specifically names the GT model, Popular Mechanics gives the award to the entire Mustang line including the V6 and Shelby GT500 models. The editors at the magazine praise the versatility of the Mustang lineup, starting with the “astonishingly versatile V6 engine that developed 305 hp while attaining more than 30 mpg” and praising Ford for bringing back the 5.0, “a nostalgic number that represents high performance.” Finally, they list the GT500, which won the award in 2009, for being even better with its new lighter aluminum block.
