I recently acquired a 71 Mach 1 429 CJ-R. The person I purchased the car from is going to restore it for me. He will be sending me updates and pictures of the project. This kind of documentation is really great. I will be happy to post these updates for your pleasure. The car is a 33,000 mile survivor. It was discovered in a large chicken coop in New York. The car probably would have been long gone if it wasn't protected from the elements. The car is 100% original except for a missing Rochester carb, a pop open gas cap and one hub, rim set. The car was painted a medium blue sometime in the 70's over its original Grabber blue! It has a non deluxe blue interior. What is unusual about this car is its 4 speed close ratio gear box combined with factory installed a/c. Finding a correct carb is going to be very interesting. It currently has a period correct Holley. I believe they used this carb on a Super CJ. I don't mean to ramble. As you can see I do love Machs. Thanks!
Glad your here man! Your not rambling I'm addicted to, have been for nearly 30+ years!
Try to get us some photos I would like to see what condition it was in in the chicken coup. Did you get photos of it the day it was found??
I do have pictures of what it looked like after it was removed from the coop. It was probably cleaned up a bit but overall is very coop-original. I will attempt to upload some photos.
Are you going back to the stock grabber blue and keeping it stock or are you gong to restomod. Would love to see pictures from when it was first discovered.

hmm a 4 brrl with ram air thats back before the epa shut that combo down.
You can definetly add the original triple guage cluster in the center dash and the factory tach can be added as well. Do a little searching here on the site and you'll find several different articles on how to do it. That will make a much cleaner looking installation. Especially since you want to go back stock. Thanks all. I know this restoration is going to be a long journey, but it's worth the wait. Appreciate all the thoughts and info.
I just located a 1971 gas cap. It is an NOS Autolite, still in the box. Exactly what I needed. Now I just have to find a Rochester Quadrajet 700 cfm, tag#7040285 and a hub cap and rim. Will post more pix soon.
AS AN UPDATE TO THE GAS CAP PURCHASE

The gas cap turns out to be a non-nos cap, but pulled from a car and put into an nos box. The seller pointed this out to me after he inspected it further. He brought this to my attention and offered to refund my money. I really appreciated the honesty of this seller!
Keep up the great work. Where were you able to find your NOS gascap? I am looking forward to pictures of your process.
Ebay! There is also a nos gas cap for a 71, 351. I will send pictures soon. Have many feelers out for the Rochester.
