Kidney Transplant a Success for Shelby
January 31, 1996

Six years after successfully receiving a heart transplant (1991), auto racing legend Carroll Shelby got a new kidney Tuesday--from his 50-year-old son, Michael.

The operation, at an unspecified Los Angeles hospital, was a success, according to Don Rager, chief operating officer for Shelby American, Inc.
As a kid growing up in Africa, all the other missionaries were our Aunts and Uncles. Uncle Tex Warnake was actually from Indiana but he had that same Carroll Shelby demeanor that drew others to him. A straight shooter and down to earth person. We also had a Ronald Reagon, his name was Uncle Jim Burra. He was our dorm parent for a few years and man could he ever sort things out and define the issues in pure simplicity.

That's kind of what I see in the Carroll Shelby of yore.

There is no doubt some validity in your insight Joe. Those little Dodge's could be the next big thing. I can't afford to own my cars for investment so I enjoy my 73 Mach 1 for what it is and what I see it becoming. Makes me think though - maybe I'll keep my eye open!
Many years ago I ran upon a Dodge Colt GLHS that had turbo stipes down the rockers. I had my 70 Maverick with the 351w which was not slow. When the light turned green i stepped on the Maverick, kinda toying with him. He wound it up I heard the turbo whistling and I kept pushing the gas further and further to just stay ahead of him. It quickly became apparent that the GLHS was much faster then I thought it should have been. I smashed the pedal all the way to the floor and was able to pull away and outrun him, but I came away with a new respect for a 1.6L turboed sardine can, especially when it came from a man named Shelby.
