I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to how I might get a couple inches additional legroom on the driver's seat in my 73. Seats and tracks are original.

Thanks much

I have not attempted this on my 73 Mustang, but I'm 6'4" and needed more leg room in my 98 Mustang GT Convertible. I was able to drill holes in the seat track and move the seat further back on the track. It worked fine but I had to be careful not to run the seat all the way back against the seat belt retractor on the floor.

Maybe someone else here has done this on a 71/73.
I have seen track extenders on ebay. Not sue what quality they are or anything like that but i did see them.
Hey IHawk0001,

Sounds like some good advice. You may also be able to bolt the seat back a few inches if you do not mind adding an additional couple of holes to the floorboards.

By the way - it doesn't look like you have ever had an official welcome. I am sorry to have missed that. Welcome. We are glad to have you here. How did the headliner install go?

Feel free to introduce yourself and your car on a new post if you would like. I surmise that you are from Iowa. Is that correct, what part?

Welcome!
Thanks, much. I am a newcomer and purchased my 73 mach about a month ago. It is a Q code four speed and a prior owner added the functioning ram air system to it as well as repainted it blue vs the original saddle bronze metallic. Based on a limited review everything looks quite good on it. Shows about 63,500 miles and based on everything I have seen it might be accurate.

I had a 73 Mach 1 back in the mid 70's and always had a warm spot for them and kept saying I would get another some day. After many years I finally did it.

Swapped out some aftermarket wheels with magnum 500's and cleaning up some other issues now.

Will post some pictures in a couple weeks when I get to stage 2.

I am also thinking about converting to power steering.

Haven't tackled headliner yet - that may be stage 3. The current one just has a small hole and I am tolerating that now quite well.

Great club and clearly a lot of people that are very knowledgeable and with a real desire to help others out. Very cool.

I am from Iowa, a town called Farifield in the southeast part of state.
That's great you found another 73 after all these years. Looking forward to seeing the pictures. Keep the posts coming!
I have been to Fairfield. It is a very nice town. Looking forward to the pictures of your find, it sounds really nice.
Good luck with the 73.Buddy of mine has a 73 mach in bronze. Was a beautiful car when he first got it.Now its very rusty.
About your seat problem I too needed some leg room in my 72 so when I was replacing the floors I moved the seat pan rearward 1". That did the trick for me.There was an article in mustang monthly about that years ago, maybe you could do a search in their archive.
72 Machrag,

What happened to your buddy's 73. Did he just not keep it up?

I think that the aritcle that you are referring to is this one: http://www.mustangmonthly.com/howto/38039/index.html for short seat platforms.
Steve sorry for the delay, been very busy. My friends got married and had kids so the mach ended up sitting in the driveway for 20 years. In this climate you have to keep your car in a garage or it just goes to rust.My 72 was rebuild 2 years ago and I constantly have to clean and paint to stop the surface rust under the car.I could always under coat everything but then buyers think you are trying to hide something.
