Im thinkin of getting some ar500 in 17x8s and 17x11 for my 72 mach 1. Does anyone know if the 11 inch wheel will fit in the rear and what is the least amount of backspaceing i will need. I want the wheel to go out as far as possible without sticking out. Im thinking of 4 linking the car and bagging it to. Any help will be appriciated.
You will need to do some math to get a proper size tire for a 17inch rim. I can tell you that I have 275/60/15 on the back of my 71 Mach1 and that is all that will fit. I think the fender lips have been trimmed but not flared. Be careful to get a tire that is the right diameter, you do not want it to have the baby buggy look. I can still spin my tires if I try but the 275's look plenty wide and provide plenty of traction. I suspect you will need to flare the fenders or shorten the axle if you want to go wider than my tires.

I am doing similar research for my 1971 Mach 1. I am in process of upgrading the suspension and brakes. What size tires and wheels are you running up front?
225/60/15 in front

I THINK YOU WILL HAVE TROUBLE WITH AN 11" WHEEL ON THE BACK. FROM ANOTHER SITE, THERE HAS BEEN ALOT OF TALK AND RESEARCH ON THIS SUBJECT AND IT PRETTY MUCH CAME DOWN TO A 17" X 9.5" WITH A 5" BACKSPACE WAS PRETTY MUCH THE LIMIT ON A STOCK BODY. THE 17X8 WILL FIT FINE ON THE FRT. THERES A THREAD WITH PICS OF WHEEL FITMENT ON THE CAR I'LL TRY TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO REFER IT HERE. OR MAYBE SOME OF THE OTHERS HERE FROM 7173 MUSTANGS CAN HELP.
I have seen 295's on a 10" rim with I believe 6.5" backspacing on a 73 Mach 1 inside the wheelwell with no trimming. I cannot find the picture I have but I will keep looking so I can post it.

will 9,5x17" wheels fit, with 4,5 inch backspacing in the back? (ET -6)

8x17" in front (what backspacing or ET is best here?)

I plan on using 215/40/17, because I've got these new laying around, I realise they'll be a bit small for the rear, but maybe it 'll keep the 9,5" wheels from rubbing..
Yes the rear wheels will work but the tires u wil have a hell of a time trying to get to beed up. They are way to skinny to use on a 9 inch wide wheel. Theyd work fine on the front. Ud need probably a 255/ 45 or 50r 17 in the rear.
thanks!

I'd figured they would be an issue, but they're brand new.

The 8x17 come in different offsets, maybe this is a solution to keep the tyres :

8x17 et5 (front)
8x17 et -15 (rear)

Wouldn't that make it possible to use my new tyres, AND have a wider looking wheel at the rear, while maintaining the 8"

would that fit a '73?
