Mine just arrived today. I haven't had the chance to browse the instructions that were included but my experience so far with those is that they are vagu at best and most often irrelevant to the car I am working on.
If anyone has a step by step go-by with measurements I'd appreciate it. Thanks!
Decided to go by the instructions that came with it. Looked like a copy made from an original mimiograph. Anyway, I could kind of make out what the instructions were trying to say. Basically this is how you do it (if anyone needs to know in the future).
INSTALLING LOUVERS ON A 1972 MACH 1
1. Once your louvers are assembled, lay them on your window and place it where you want to mount it.
2. Tape the 2 top hinges in place on your rear window according to where the hinge holes are on your louvers.
3. Smear some dishwasher soap onto the parts of the hinges that will be sliding under your weatherstripping, otherwise it can be a pain. Also helps to use a putty knife to get the lifting started. Once the hinge brackets are in place under the weatherstripping, slightly bend up the hinges, take a hair dryer and heat the glass (the adhesive will most effectively bond to glass between 65 and 85 degrees). Remove the adhesive covering and stick the hinges into place. Voila! Hardest part done.
4. Now just screw on the louvers at the hinges and place the lockdown brackets in place on your window according to where the lockdown screws on the louvers line up. Again use the dishsoap to get under your weatherstripping. Once you think you have the brackets in place, lower the louers to see if holes match up. If they do, stick a piece of masking tape on the window for reference just in case the brackets move during mounting.
5. Again, lift up the brackets slightly and remove adhesive cover and stick your brackets into place. Note: Some cars that have been repaired or altered may have different sizes of rear windows. It is not 100% necessary that the lockdown brackets be secured under the weatherstripping.
6. You're pretty much done now. Instructions say the adhesive on the brackets needs to cure for 24 hours so ya gotta hang up the keys for a day.... might be the hardest step of all.
Hope this helps someone else in the future.
