After the success of the revival of the "Bullitt" name in 2001, Ford wanted to cash in again on the Mustang's legendary heritage and resurrected another golden-age Mustang - the Mach 1.

The Mach 1 featured many styling cues taken directly from the classic Mach 1s of the early 1970s. These included the functional Shaker Hood Scoop, faux Magnum 500 polished alloy wheels and the matte black hood stripe that ran from the Shaker forward to the edge of the hood plus the black Mach 1 stripe that ran down the length of the side. The interior saw this continuation of retro design, with the classic "Comfort Weave" style dark gray seats, 1970s variety gauge cluster, and the well-known machined aluminum shift knob.

The engine of the 2003 Mach 1 hinted at its powerful ancestors as well. The all-aluminum 4.6L DOHC 32 Valve V-8 featured the same high-flow heads as the 2003-2004 Cobra and was capable of 305 HP. This represented a big gain over the performance abilities of the GT, and made the Mach 1 a very popular choice.

Would have been nice (for me at least) if Ford would have only produced what it said it would, 6500 per year, thereby increasing the rarity of the vehicle.
