Cadillac has now issued a recall notice for 2010 SRX crossovers equipped with the turbocharged 2.8 liter V6 motor. The SRX Turbo requires premium fuel and will not run properly under heavy load with lower octane gasoline. Once preignition (marked by “pinging”) begins, complete engine failure is a likely result if the car continues to be driven.

Cadillac will reprogram the ECUs, presumably to accommodate the mistaken use of lower octane gasoline. The recall is specific to the turbocharged 2.8 liter V6 models and does not affect the 3.0 liter, normally aspirated V6 models. Owners can expect to be contacted by Cadillac in early June, but can call their customer service hotline at (888) 327-4236 with any questions.
