Here's a few photos of my 1972 Mach 1 that I picked up recently in Sacramento California August 09. Definitely has a ways to go, and photos seem to be much rougher on the overall look of the car than in actuality. Some are taken in better light, but over time I hope to update this section as progress continues. The only reason I bought this car is because I had been wanting one for 3 years, but couldn't find one in Phoenix that wasn't already restored and expensive, or just flat out junk. This 72 Mach is 100% original, and has ZERO rust anywhere on the car!

Car is badly faded, but with the magic of a product called TR3 it brings back the shine by removing oxidation. Oh, and lots of elbow grease! I've been using this stuff on old cars for years and you wont believe the difference it makes to a faded car, this stuff doesn't get the credit it deserves.
I'll add more photos soon showing the difference in the paint without TR3 and after TR3.

The Baby Moon rims have already been replaced with Torque Thrust II and all new BFG Radial TA's. Big improvement over the 15 year old tires the car came with. Its so hot in Phoenix right now its not to much fun being outside for any reason.
Updated photos of hood painted, with all new front end January 2010

This is just temporary until I can afford a new paint job. The paint is overall presentable, but there are nicks and dings, still looks pretty sweet though. I love this car!

Did you get the hood paint scheme from Minichamps. i.e. - not painting the scoops?

[attachment=805]
Not painting the scoops right now. this change of color comes from the fact that I wrecked the front end and had to have the hood repaired, so since they couldn't match the paint I just blacked it out for now.

Eventually Ill do this all correctly. Saving for a new motor, then new paint, then new interior. I do everything in steps.
Looks good for now. That black looks like the correct shade. I've seen some glossy ones that don't look just right.
The bumper repair looks pretty good or did you replace it?
Its called HotRod black. The bumper was one I got off ebay, it was blue. Had it redone first, media blasted, then some flex epoxy stuff and a good sanding and painted. I'm very happy with the job. If I wanted to be real picky it has a couple of flaws but this is temporary until I repaint the whole car. Looks better than the Gold hood did. I took it to Autozone (car parts store) last night and spent 40 minutes in the parking lot talking to every person going in and out of the store. :)
[attachment=806]Looks like your Mach is Gold Glow. Is that right? I think Gold Glow is one of th beest color combinations for these style of vehicles. When done correctly, they are very nice. The favorite Mach which I restored was a 72 Mach 1, Gold Glow, 1/2 black vinyl top, Q code, 4 speed, AC, Mach 1 interior, with 37,000 miles. I sold it to a high roller in the Dallas automotive world who had it completely repainted. Be on the look out for it. There's nothing like Gold Glow (except for Bright Lime).

I'd love to see your car completely repainted. You will have a gorgeous Mach 1!@ Ca't wait!

Thanks for the encouragement, I'm pretty happy with the way the car is coming along. Buffing the oxidized paint has helped tremendously, but because the paint is getting thin in spots and because of the chips here and there it definitely needs paint. Going to cost around 7500 to get it painted since all the old paint has to be removed, maybe this summer. I'm sort of waiting for the 94,000 mile motor to give up before painting. Not sure when that's going to happen, the motor is still really strong.
Man, the front end looks awesome in black with the black banding! It really adds a lot. I was planning on (waaay down the line, when i get to the body :))doing something like this to mine, but had not seen it before. I was a little worried that it would look too thin, but i don't think it does at all. Maybe the full black hood helps it, too -

the car looks badass! you said you were going to do it 'right' when you repaint - meaning original, or a really nice custom job?
