'66 Indy pace car
#1
I would like to talk to the owner of any of the 3 actual on track pace cars, not parade cars, from the 1966 Indy 500. I don't want to purchase the car but I have something that the owner will be interested in. I have posted on a couple of Comet/Mercury forums. Anyone know where one of these cars is these days? Thanks. Dave R.

No such luck. I called the Indy Speedway museum this afternoon. The nice lady there is checking for some help for me. The speedway had a big celebration last year as it was the 100th 500. Part of the festivities included a pace car reunion but no one with a '66 pace car attended. Dave R.

God I remember when Indy was the biggest thing going! As far as Racing Indy was it. My dad took us to the time trials several times, he said that was when the cars went the fastest, we went the year Jimmy Clark came over with the rear engined Lotus/ Ford. I believe 64 of 65, Then I believe it was 67 when Parnelli Jones drove the First turbine car, we went again in 71 maybe? when Smokey Unich was there. We were there the year Art Pollard got killed. He had a florescent green and yellow car, we watched him go into the 1st turn and heard the crash then nothing. He had hit the wall between turn 1 and 2 and pretty much destroyed the car I remember them bringing it back to the pits and down into the garage area. Then they announced he had died, I remember the sadness,it was as if everyone there felt it. I quess that was 72 or 73? That was about the last year we ever went. But what great memories. Wow! JTS

Yeah, I have some Indy memories also. And yes, Indy was it when it came to racing. The whole month of May was full of activities at IMS. Dave R.
