I am concerned someone could easily steal my Ram air cleaner assembly. Is anyone aware of a remote hood latch, this would make it hard to pop the hood open and dash off with the unit. I realy don't want to chain the hood or install locking hood pins.

Instead of a chain, probably a nice coated locking cable (bicycle cable) would work. I used one on a 74 Duster I had because the battery was stolen twice! You can't see it unless you look up under the front bumper.

Sucks that you would have to worry about someone stealing something from under the hood of your Mustang. Sopose another option is an alarm but thats only good if you are close enough. Guess thats why I babysit my Mach's anytime I go somewhere and when I am not with-in eyesite they are locked in the garage.

The bike lock is a good one, thanks. Master lock makes one that is adjustable so I can cut the cable shorter. I have purchased a Viper alarm with a hood and shock detector. I would still like to find a junk yard solution via a remote hood release . Any ideas on what might work?

Might be able to find a hood latch assembly & cable with handle off a newer Ford like Mustang Taurus, Tempo, Escort, Crown Vic.....hard to say if you would ever find anything that would match correctly. Trick would be finding one that matched up to the bolt holes and matched up the the latch on the hood.
Maybe Rare Pony can take a look at his stangs to see how close the latches are between the newer and older Stangs :) Not sure if the 69-73 use the same style latches or I would look at mine :)

My 73 is still in the body shop, so I can't compare at the moment. Should be back home soon!

Thanks, looks like a trip to the junk yard and some fabrication are in my future. By the way a ram air assembly just sold on ebay for over $600.

The NOS and used prices for the ram air setup are crazy - just see Ebay.

However, the is an aftermarket replacement for the part under the hood and the flappers for a reasonable price. I think the only option for the air cleaner itself is a fiberglass reproduction.

My mistake, the $600 price was for the air cleaner without the hood vaccum part. $1700 is outragous, mine does not have the vaccum portion and has a k&n top. This is how it came to me, the top is likely a standard Ford part, do you think? I think the 69 was not vaccum actuated.

It is sad to say this . But no matter how you can stop a thief . If the person wants your stuff that bad . It will just take them a little more time to break something badly . It could cost you far more in repairs just trying stop the thief . THEY DON,T CARE ABOUT ALL YOUR HARD WORK OR HOW MUCH TIME WE HAVE SPEND TO GET THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE . Sorry but just the facts for all of use . C.L.
