1971 mach 1 fog lights

I had read that the fog lights were faux, is there a aftermarket operational kit?

Wish I could help. I dont think there were any fog lights that came from the factory. Now you got me thinking. Maybe someone can enlighten us both :)

I'm sure you can find some aftermarket ones to mount below the bumper. I used to have a set of Marchal lights mounted on mine. The ones in the grille are strictly for show. You can see them in this picture.

I spoke to a local Mustang parts supply house and he told me that the Mach 1 grill lights were a low output affair. I have a book, Forty Years of Mustangs and it has a picture of a Boss351 with the grill lights on, but they appear to be as bright as parking lights. I would like to keep the stock apperance but would like extra brightness.

I know this original post is old, but for what it's worth, the socket configuration (depending on production date if it's a '71) is gong to limit your options as far as bulb selection goes. Also, anyone else out there who's thinking about adding a few more lumens - those amber driving lamp lenses will melt like a hershey bar on a wood stove if hotter, higher output bulbs are substituted.

I did the same installation of Amber lights on the lower valance as vamach. I do not believe there is a factory light for the 71-73. The mounting holes in the lower valanace for the spoiler worked well for mounting mine with the spoiler bolts. Agreed on upping the light in the factory sport lamp. They will melt away quickly with a larger bulb. Only options are upping the headlights for more white light or going aftermarket for driving lamps. You can see my lights in the photo below before the car was dismantled for restoration.
