Hey Guys, I have an opportunity to purchase a rust free excellent condition 69 Mach I body. It doesn't include the hood, doors, fenders or trunk lid. Just the bare bones. What would be a fair price for this find? Thanks in advance.

That one is tough. Basically you are purchasing the VIN tag. What is the 5th character of the VIN, (for the motor it came with). If it came with the base motor of a 351W two barrel motor it should be free. If it was a big block car and you have plans to build a car from it and it's $500 or less. The reason so cheap because it is missing everything that was original to the car. Missing the original motor or trans is fairly common, but this would be missing everything original to it.

Thanks, for your input. A Dynacore body shell doesn't have anything original, yet they are in the $18,000 area. I have a great donor car.

There's more to consider if you have a donor car and can use a good rust free body. It might be a good option to assemble a complete car. I was under the impression you were considering purchasing the body and build from there.
The cost of a new Dynacore body doesn't surprise me. The retail cost of today's repro parts are partly base on what people can and will pay for them. I've been tinkering with old cars since the mid 1970's. Back then this hobby primarily consisted of middle to lower income people and whatever parts that were available were priced accordingly. Today, many higher income people are into the hobby so prices of reproduction parts have gone up drastically. Kind of like real estate, price is based on what the market will pay.

I'm of the same opinion. Maybe a $1000.00 tops, if it comes with a title. As far as being rust free! Be very careful, as there are lots of places rust can hide, or be hidden with little effort. So look inside every nook, and cranny you can get to. If it's truly a bare shell, it should be easy to see all the places. I've seen a lot of cars being called rust free. That were definitely not, Rust Free! Also be sure it hasn't been wrecked, or poorly reconstructed, as that would drop the value even more. Good Luck and some pictures would help. we might see something you don't. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks for your input. The body shell is an R code if that makes any difference. My first three cars were 69 Mach I's.

JTS Hey JTS, thanks for your thoughts. The body shell is an R code if that matters. The pictures I have are of poor quality and there are parts tucked in and around the shell. Hopefully things work out and progress gets underway. I will forward progress.

Being as there isn't any engine, or drive train, etc. to go with it. The R code is kind of a mute point. You can build a good clone. Which will still be worth a bunch as the 69 Mach1 is a highly sought after car. But it probably won't bring Barrett Jackson type prices, when compared to an original, but you probably already knew that. You'll still have a sweet ride when finished. Good Luck, waiting for some pics.
