Cam Specs
#1
I'm trying to find the cam specs for an old Manley Thunderstick cam for the big block FE motors.  The numbers on the cam are 17400.  I've searched in the internet with no luck.  Maybe somebody else here might know where to look.

Update: I called Manley tech support and they found some of the specs in an old archived catalog.

Camshaft, Manley Thunderstick for FE motors.  Part number 17400

Lift at Valve:  0.514" I / 0.514" E
Advertised Duration:  300 degrees I / 300 degrees E
Duration at 0.050" tappet lift: 223 degrees I / 223 degrees E
Lobe Separation Angle: 112 degrees
Intake Centerline:  108 degrees

The smaller duration at 0.050" and larger lobe separation angle would explain why I remember it having a fairly smooth warm idle.  Although it seems it was fairly aggressive for the time period is was made.

Consequently Lunati still makes this same cam.  In their Bracket Master series it's part number 10330453.

Will I keep using it? I don't yet know.  I'm considering Comp Cams 270 Magnum or the Comp Cams 280 Magnum.  But the 280 Magnum might be a little too aggressive.  The 270 Magnum is pretty close to the same as the old Manley Thunderstick except for a smaller lobe separation angle, intake centerline, a little more duration at 0.050" and a little more lift.  But not so much lift I'd have to switch valve springs.  I'm not the biggest Comp Cam fan but they stock cams for the FE series motors where as the others do not and have about a month lead time.  As I've aged I prefer in stock off-the-shelf parts and am no longer into buying custom made parts.
