So, in your other thread you mentioned that you cured the rubbing - what did you do? I apologize for not chiming in earlier... I had a friend in from out of town and we were playing with getting my Jeep running all weekend (he just left this morning to head back to Phoenix).
Actually, my tires aren't any taller than stock - 26.6". They're 245/60R15s on 15x8 up front, and 295/50R15s on 15x10 (5.25" BS) out back.
Hi Eric, The 50's series are not as tall as the 60's in regards to tire height but they are wider. If possible, please post a picture of your rear tire similar to the picture I posted. I am curious what kind of clearance you have at the leaf spring. Also, are you running a bone stock factory suspension (i.e. standard height leaf springs no air shocks)?

Hey Guys,
I don't think I have a pic like yours, Mike... I'll have to work on that. Suffice it to say, I have about the same if not a little bit more clearance to the springs as your pic. There's a guy on 7173Mustangs that went with the same size tires (295/50R15 BFGs) on 15x10s with 6.5" of backspacing, and he's not rubbing anywhere, either. He never mentioned how close his rear spring clearance is, come to think of it. A couple of the other guys went with bigger diameter rims with lower profile tires in the 305/315 range and are not having any issues without having to mini-tub it, as well.
I purposely went with the 50 series out back because I knew the added width would drive the overall diameter up, and start messing with the speedometer gear and rear gear ratio - probably would've made them 28"+ in diameter. I ran into similar issues when I threw the 33" Swampers on my Jeep, up from the 31" tires it came with, which totally screwed up the power band and speedometer readings. I'd found a tire size calculator online and discovered that the 295/50s would be the same overall diameter as the 245/60s (26.6"), and would be right at home with the 3.00 rear end gears and stock 19-tooth speedometer gear.
Here's mine right after I threw on the original 15x10s with 4.25" of backspacing. They stuck out just enough to cause the little bit of rubbing when the suspension flexed going through dips in the road.
I think I posted the difference the new rims with 5.25" of backspacing made in a different thread, but here's the comparison between the two (outside edges) again - original rims first:
And with the new rims:
I love having the fat tires out back - makes it look a lot meatier, and has more of a 'Day Two, old school' restomod look:
I actually lost a little bit of the deep dish look with the new rims, though. Here's how deep they looked with the 4.25" backspacing:

Eric,
Thanks for posting the photos. I remember these photos from your other posting. The car definitely looks better with the wheel tucked in with the deeper backspace. This is posting is a good example for Jonner B to reference for tire size.
Thanks again for sharing.

No worries! Happy to help, if it does.
My pal Dave said it looks like a monster rolling down the street with the big meats out back (he followed me home from last year's car show when he was here). I gave him an obligatory burn out on the way back as well, and he mentioned that it reminded him of watching some of those old school drag races. I just wish we'd coordinated a little better so he could've shot some video of that. I'd actually wound up dusting a Honda with a fart can in the process of my showing off, not that it had anything to do with it... or did it?

Kool...fart can Honda's seem to be popular. We have tons of them up here in CT!

Wow! The fad of import cars with fart-can exhaust has kind of faded away in my area of California. It was popular 8-10 years ago. Don't know about southern and northern ends of California, but thankfully, I rarely hear or see one anymore.
As far as wide rear tires, IMO, if the goal is that hot-rod racy look, it looks good if they fit correctly.

The fart cans must have been a west coast thing years ago and moved east!

Yeah the "Rice Rockets" as we called them. Have pretty well left the Midwest also. There are still some around, but the majority are of the "Fart Can" variety. Or as I would call them wannabees! They definitely aren't the caliber cars from the Fast and Furious era.
