new autolite volt reg keeps alt light on
#11
Was your car an original factory tach car or did a previous owner do the conversion?  I only ask because there are some critical differences in the underdash harness, engine compartment harness, and like you already know, the alternator harness.

Merely a suggestion, but if it were mine with the mechanical OEM repro voltage regulator installed, connected, and the engine idling I would use a DVOM and measure the voltage at the terminals at the voltage regulator by back probing the terminals on the connector.  You will then know for certain if the inputs to the regulator are correct and if it's simply not providing power to the alternator fields.

Ok so I called CJP for the third time and they offered to either give me a refund or get a third replacement so I chose the third replacement.  It arrived today and I connected it, started the engine and surprise, no alternator light. Everything is working as it should.  I then decided to connect the first two they sent me and verified that alternator light comes on with no charging to battery. I put back the working autolite regulator and everything is working fine.

Someone on the 69stang board had the same issue where it took the third regulator for it to work.

Good to hear it's fixed.  If you drive the car much it might be worth putting that known good aftermarket regulator in the glove box.

Good Deal sometimes persistence is the only way to solve a problem. Even when there isn't a good explanation. Glad you got it fixed and, + 1 on the suggestion of keeping the other "working one" with you.  Cool
