1971 Boss 351
#1
Couple guys where I work have been talking about the 71 Boss 351 first generation Mustang production car being the fastest Mustang built.  I am unable to confirm this but I found this video showing a brand new one. A fine example of a 71 Mustang.

I don't know.  Do one of those guys own or want one and is maybe a little biased?  The Boss 351 is a nice motor, but that's a fairly heavy car.  What were they claiming it's fastest at doing, going straight, around a track?

The guy owns an Oldsmobile, he just happened to throw this fact out there knowing I am a Mustang guy.  Anyway, I told him I couldn't confirm it but would do some fact checking.  This is when I found this video.

You know Mike I remember seeing that somewhere myself. That the Boss 351 Mustang was the fastest "Stock" Mustang. I don't have the slightest clue where it was, but I can remember being in disbelief when I read it. The one thing I know of the Boss 429's was they were terribly traction limited. One drag strip tester said the Chevelle LS6 454, was 2 thenths of a second faster in the quarter. Simply because the Mustang was still spinning the tires, just before going through the traps. The reasoning was the Chevelle was roughly 1000 pounds heavier then the Boss Mustang, thereby giving it better traction. then the Boss Mustang. We all know you don't win races by spinning the tires. Several Years ago I watched a Dream Car shoot out of all the Muscle cars from back then. It was the LS6 Chevelle, Boss 429 Mustang, Hemi Challenger, GTO Judge, Buick Skylark, and the AMX. In the End the Boss 429, edged out the LS6 Chevelle. In several different tests which included 0 to 60,  1/4 mile, 60 to stopping, slalom, and burnout. Peter Klute said the Boss 429 was the best all around car, it ran the hardest all day long.
