I with you on that, Mustangmike, I don't believe the tariff's are any significant source of their problems.  It's just another excuse being thrown out.  I can believe those plants are building some car models that are not selling.  But, then again is it me or aren't new car sales down across the board.  I recall Ford mentioning the F150 sales are down which is their most popular car line.  But my gosh, has anybody seen pricing of todays F150's!

Yes, trucks are unbelievably expensive. Personally, I would not buy a brand new truck unless I was writing it off as a business expense. I have a 97 Ford Ranger I picked up about 10 years ago for $1800 which has paid me back 10 times over.

From time to time, companies need to adjust to consumer demands and tastes and I think that is exactly what GM is doing.  Apparently, some of their passenger vehicles are not selling so they are discontinuing. Unfortunately, it came with lay-offs.  I know I will get in trouble but the unions in CT are very demanding and CT is upside down especially with its unfunded pension liability. Now our new Governor wants to legalize recreational marijuana. Amazing....just what we need more problems! The hardworking taxpayers in this State take a hard hit to their wallets as a result.  Maybe that's why people can't afford new cars!

Well you're not in trouble with me.  California is in the same situation for the same reason and I don't see it getting any better.  I think we're a couple of steps ahead of you with the problems.  Does that mean we're winning or loosing over here? Laughing   Feels like loosing to me.

Back to cars, I drive a 1995 F150 and don't have any intensions of replacing it even if I could.

Back in Dec 2014, just a few months after I got the Mustang basically 'finished' (as in, good enough to take to a car show and go get it inspected and put plates on it), my wife was bugging me about getting a new truck.  I had a '97 Ram 1500 4x4 at the time, bought it used in '99 for almost half what it cost new with only 22K miles.  In 15 years, I'd only racked up 140K miles and had only done the usual periodic maintenance - it still looked great and ran like a champ.  I just got the @ss-groove in the driver seat the way I liked it... why would I need a new truck?  She kept at it, wore me down, and I found my current DD, a 2012 Ram 1500 Lone Star - which again, I bought 2 years after the model year, and paid a little more than half what it would've run for the same 2015 model ($29.5K out the door vs. $56K sticker price for the 2015).

Yes - trucks are ridiculously overpriced.  I looked at the prices of the new Rams (yes... I even held my nose when looking past the new ugly nose treatment) and it would run between $50-58K, depending on if I picked 4WD or not.  Geez, the asking price on our house in 1997 was only $85K (it's now valued by the tax people at over $200K now, but I digress).

I hate the way prices are creeping up on everything.

Yup, $55k is a lot of cha-ching for a truck or any car for that matter.  Shoot, the guy across the street from me just bought a Chevy truck that cost north of $50K.  I just can't see spending that kind of money for vehicle.  Like you said it is a mortgage not a loan.

I buy a new vehicle every 12-14 years just because it is nice to drive and own something new.  I actually only owned 3 new vehicles my whole life.  I bought a brand new 2015 Jeep Wrangler for $22,500 and I only have 2 more payments to make!  Hopefully, it will last me at least to 2025.

Okay, . . . way off topic now, but what states are you guys in where housing is so inexpensive?

Meh, who cares if the thread goes wonky - we're talkin' here.  LOL!

I'm in San Angelo, Texas.  It's so cheap here because you literally have to want to come to San Angelo, to come to San Angelo.  There's no chance of getting lost and accidentally coming here by missing an exit on the interstate, since we're the largest city in the USA without an interstate (Yay!  We're Number 1 at 'something').  It's so cheap to live here because nobody really wants to.  I only live here because the Air Force dumped me off at Goodfellow AFB, then I got married... and since this is the only place she's ever lived more than 2 years at a time (her father was Air Force, her ex was a Marine, and this is where she got stationed out of tech school in '88).  I can honestly say that it's not been all that bad to me, other than being hot, flat, dusty, 'West Texas,' and is not SLC, Utah (where I grew up).  I've been worse places, though.
