427 in a 69 Mach 1
#1
Hi All, I have a 69 Mach 1 with a built 351W. I’m looking into putting a 427 into my Mach and was wondering if anyone here has done this and how simple or difficult was it? Thanks!

I'm assuming you mean a Y block 427? and not just a "Windsor" stretched out to 427? A Y block or Fe427 as they were officially known is a completely different animal. Nothing is compatible between the 2 engines. No brackets, Mounts, Exhaust, Transmissions, etc. Nothing! So the best way to accomplish this, would be to have a Mustang, Cougar, or 71" back Fairlane, parts car, with an Fe series (360,390,427, or 428) engine. To rob all the parts off of. Otherwise your at the mercy of seek, and find. And if you hadn't noticed any parts that can even be remotely considered "Mustang Parts" have gone stupid on price. So a parts car would be my Idea. It doesn't even have to run as long as all the pieces are there. Maybe someone on the Forum has an old car for parts???   Good Luck.

It's an FE motor so it should fit.  But like JTS mentioned, nothing from your current setup can be reused, including the trans and any related trans parts.  Perogie Enterprises in New Jersey should have everything you will need to install an FE motor in a Mustang.  When searching for parts I wouldn't mention it's a 427.  That might drive up the prices.  428 and 390 parts should interchange, at least things like the accessory brackets, pulleys, and motor mount parts.

You can stroke your 351W to get 427 cubic inches.  But I wouldn't.  The bore to stroke ratio is completely different than that of a big block so it won't behave at all like a big block.  Plus, stroked small block motors have shorter life spans simply because the long stroke causes the pistons to travel far in the cylinders.
